MadeThought is a UK graphic design agency. I think I’m in love with their website interface.

There’s an interesting discussion going on at Worldchanging about the effectiveness of the latest “green” movement. I’ll refrain from going into too much detail with my thoughts, as they’re a bit jumbled on the subject at the moment. On the one hand, as a champion of the cause I think there’s a point to the thinking that any action, any publicity is good. On the other hand, I fear public backlash from overkill of “greenwashing” and green consumerism. Though in the end, I do believe the realities of our changing environment will render this discussion moot, and changes in the way we live will become necessities, and not lifestyle choices.

Considering that the above image has been gracing my desktop background for the past few months, I figure it would be good to give Right Brain Terrain some love. (Not that they necessarily need more love, as they certainly get plenty).

Full disclosure, I tend to be a complete sucker for a well done inspirational item. I love a good graduation speech (Most recently this surprisingly touching commencement address by Mike O’Malley, of GUTS fame. I know. But seriously. Read it. It’s good.)  One of my favorite albums right now is the new Weepies. So I’m a bit predisposed to like these. But I do so love them. If I didn’t have such a bad track record of getting posters and not hanging them up, these would definitely be adorning my walls. Maybe once I decide to stay in the same place longer than a year, they will.

“I have this fear that we aren’t feeling enough as a culture…we’ve lost our sense of outrage, our anger and our grief about what’s going on in our culture…What I’m trying to do with my work is to take these numbers from the raw language of data, and translate them into a more universal visual language that can be felt…My belief is If we can feel these issues more deeply, then they will matter more to us than they do now. And if we can find that then we will be able to find with in us what we need to find to face the big question…

How do we change?”

You Work For Them Email

June 23, 2008

This email showed up in my inbox this morning, and I’m kinda loving it. You Work For Them sells art, books, magazines, fonts, stock art, and posters. The email is promoting the font Neighborhood. No product name, no store name, no “call to action.” Just show me the type, a little Ice Cube, and I’m sold. Maybe it’s not your best bet for selling, say, shoes, but for your slightly offbeat typefaces, it’s perfect.
